Fuel thief causes headaches

Fuel thief causes headaches in Burnaby
News1130

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – Burnaby Fire spent much of the morning cleaning up a fuel spill and it was all thanks to a thief.

A man was siphoning fuel from a parked semi-truck around 3 a.m.. The suspect was spooked by someone passing by and took off without capping the hose.

Burnaby Fire Assistant Chief Ken Moore says the gas started flowing down Lowland Drive near North Fraser Way.

"The fuel was leaking down the road towards a river, so our HazMat crew went down and put up a dike and they stopped the flow."

Economical spill kits for hazardous spillages

There are a number of factors and issues to consider when designing, resourcing and locating spill kits and response equipment. Selecting the right equipment for the appropriate risk response, the amount required for containment and clean-up and how it is to be stored and accessed, are just a few considerations to be addressed. We manufacture a range of spill kits to suit the type, and risk, of fluid spilt and components can be altered to suit the particular situation. Determine which liquids may be spilt and then which type of absorbent you require. Whilst we have a standard range of spill kits, we can manufacture custom made units to your requirements.

Spill Kits provide immediate response to oil and chemical spills. SERPRO offers a variety of emergency spill kits for any application. General Purpose Spill Response Kits are our most versatile spill kits for clean up of coolants, oils, solvents and water, found in many industrial workplaces. Our oil spill kits specifically made for spill response to applications that require only oil to be absorbed and not water. For acids and bases and other hazardous aggressive liquids, Chemical Spill Kits, also known as Hazmat spill kits, should be used. Spill kits are available in a variety of kit configurations that include bagged spill kits, wall mount kits, carts, kit spill trucks, overpacks and many more. Truck Spill Kits are also very popular among freight transporters for the cleanup of fuel spills. These emergency spill response kits fit in tight spaces on vehicles and equipment. All of these types of spill kits are available from SERPRO, the leading retailer of quality Spill Response products.

KEROSENE leak from a storage tank

Ribble Valley hotel fined £5k after leak kills fish
Lancashire Telegraph

A KEROSENE leak from a storage tank at a luxury hotel in East Lancashire caused environmental devastation to a 150-metre stretch of a waterway.

Brown trout were killed and a duck left covered in oil after the spillage from equipment at the Higher Trapp Hotel, in Trapp Lane, Simonstone, Reedley magistrates heard.

An independent ecological survey showed that a host of smaller invertebrates were also seriously affected along Simonstone Brook.

But hotel bosses have insisted vandals were probably responsible for damaging the storage tank, which led to a major clean-up in April.

Stefan Sikorski, managing director of Lakeside Collections, which owns the Higher Trapp, admitted breaching two enviromental regulations covering the storage of oil.

Magistrates fined the hotel chain, based in Walshaw Road, Bury, £5,000 with £1,250 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
